Harper Touts Second Federal Fuel Waiver of 2026 as Gas Nears $4 per Gallon

Harper's campaign says the waiver should ease prices at the pump, which it puts nearly $1 a gallon above a year ago.

Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper (R), running for reelection against agriculture commissioner candidate Katherine E. Juhan-Arnold (D), said in a Sept. 8 post on his campaign website that the Georgia Department of Agriculture had adopted a federal fuel waiver from the Environmental Protection Agency, the department’s second of 2026. The waiver lets fuel suppliers switch to less-restrictive winter-grade gasoline early and is aimed at increasing the state’s fuel supply.

Harper pitched the move as relief at the pump. His campaign put Georgia’s average for regular gasoline at $3.89 a gallon, compared with $2.91 a year earlier.

On Sept. 28, Gov. Brian Kemp (R) suspended the state’s gas tax, and Harper backed the suspension in a statement in Kemp’s release.

Harper’s campaign also announced an endorsement from Brian Jack (GA-3) (R) on Sept. 21.
