Editorial Standards

Nonpartisan standard. GApolitics covers every candidate and officeholder by the same rules, whatever their party. We apply the same questions, the same fact checks and the same tone to each.

Corrections. When we get a fact wrong, we fix it and say so. Corrections appear at the end of the article with the date. To report an error, email News@GApolitics.com with the link and what should change.

Sources. We link to filings, records and other primary documents whenever they exist. We name our sources. We use anonymous sources rarely, only when the information matters and cannot be obtained another way. When we report a poll, we say who paid for it and how it was conducted.

Candidate and campaign materials. We offer every candidate in a race the same opportunity to participate, including questionnaires. We publish questionnaire answers as submitted, correcting only clear spelling, grammar and punctuation errors, and we never change wording or meaning. Equal opportunity does not mean equal coverage: we use our own judgment about what is newsworthy, and we apply the same standards to every candidate regardless of party. Press releases and mail pieces are labeled as coming from the campaign and are not endorsements. Mail pieces keep their “paid for by” line.
